Ingrown nails are a regular issue, and when traditional treatment is not resolving the issue, a partial or total nail avulsion is utilized by the Dermatologists.
Nail Avulsion is carried out under local anesthesia. This technique includes having either a part or the complete nail being removed, and the application of a chemical, Phenol being applied to inhibit regrowth of the problematic part of the nail. Patients are recommended not to drive after this technique and keep weight bearing activity to a minimum for the day of the treatment. The wound will be examined on a regular basis and the proper dressings provided.
